featuring Lowery J. Smith
90-year-old Lowery Smith makes fitness and his Y community a priority.
In June, Lowery Smith headed to Albuquerque, NM, for the National Senior Games. Lowery qualified at the 2018 Minnesota Senior Games to compete in four events at the National Senior Games: Discus, Shot Put, Singles Racquetball and Doubles Racquetball. And this isn’t his first time—he also competed in the same events at the 2017 National Senior Games.
This is the victory stand at the national senior games in Albuquerque. I got a third place medal in the shot put for 90 to 95 age group. I did a little better than I expected. There were nine participants in our event. Later in the day my partner and I won a gold medal for doubles racquetball. Yesterday I won the gold medal in singles racquetball. I played three matches and could hardly move at the end of the day. Only one more event to compete in. The discus competition is due on Wednesday. There are 14,000 athletes here competing. Really neat people.
Mary Ann deserves a medal for her support and trying to keep me humble.
